Chairlady of the event’s organising committee Lily Wame say this year’s theme is very relevant indeed as it highlighted the millions of people worldwide who cannot afford a healthy diet and the need for regular access to nutritious food.

“First and foremost, I and my hard-working Committee including MAL Executives and all staff of the Ministry give honour, glory and thanks to God for the opportunity to be here to witness and be part of this annual event. Secondly we thank each of you who are here for responding to the invitation and taking the time out to participate during the 3 days event.”

My committee would also like to thank the Solomon Islands government as major sponsor of the event as well as FAO for making available funds to ensure hosting of the event is possible, the chairlady said.

The celebrations will commence with a float parade from the Honiara City Council car park to the show ground at town ground where the official opening ceremony will be officiated by the Hon. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock before all the activities, displays and demonstrations take centre stage for the next 3 days.

Residents and the Honiara public are welcome to be part of the show as lots of activities has been prepared by the various MAL departments and its partners and stakeholders to be put on show during the three days world food day and agriculture show.
