In a brief handing over ceremony at the Kalala House in Honiara today, MPNSCS Permanent Secretary Karen Galokale said the equipment will help boost police and correctional operations in country.

“The donated equipment will help the police officers when they carry out their patrols and policing in the country especially the front liners at the border.

“The items are needed by the police and security officers especially during this time of COVID 19,” said Ms Galokale.

Ms Galokale said KOICA has been a long-time partner with the Solomon Islands Government and has been helping in many sectors including forestry and education.

“The donation of these equipment has reflected the good relationship with Korea through KOICA since our governments established our diplomatic ties in 1978,” she said.

She thanked and acknowledged KOICA for the kind donation especially in the area of Safety and Security.

Meanwhile speaking on behalf of KOICA, Program Officer Ms Rose Kana said KOICA is closing down its Honiara Office and will be ceased to operate as of this month.

Ms Kana said due to COVID 19, KOICA volunteers have been repatriated in March 2020 and this has forced the KOICA Honiara Office to close down.

“KOICA Project office will now base in Fiji and only the Scholarship Master’s Program for public officers will continue through the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination, MDPAC,” she said.

MS Kana said KOICA is happy to contribute to the Safety and Security of the country through the donated equipment.
