The celebration in Honiara will commence with a Parade at 7am from SMI Town Ground to the Multipurpose Hall Compound, Chinatown for the official program followed by awareness sessions and entertainment.

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of women and to renew commitments towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The global theme ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress” calls for continuous investment in the empowerment and protection of women and girls to achieve gender equality by strengthening   institutions and financing with a gender perspective.

The theme also emphasizes the crucial role that investment in women plays in driving positive change and advancement in society.

Achieving gender equality continues to be a key human rights challenge and therefore the importance of investing in women as a key strategy for addressing gender inequalities and therefore the advancement of gender equality.

The Solomon Islands National Gender Equality Policy frameworks focuses on advancing gender equality through gender responsive programs and services; improved economic status of women; Equal participation of women and men in leadership, decision-making and governance; elimination of violence against women and girls; women in peace and security; and improved access by women and girls to health services and education opportunities.
