A 35-year-old husband attacked his wife with a bush knife at Panarui village in South Choiseul recently.
It was alleged that the husband was not happy with his wife for not preparing food for him after drinking kwaso (homebrew) with his friends.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa said said the suspect was very aggressive and attacked his wife with the knife which landed above the victim’s neck.
“The relatives of the victim intervened and stopped the husband from further attacking the victim and assisted her to Sasamunga hospital for medical treatment,” he said
Pogesopa said confirmed that the suspect was arrested and formally charged with unlawful wounding. He was bailed amd to appear before court on 7 October.
“Such action is inhuman and I condemn it. Such action has no space in our communities. A husband should respect and support his wife in looking after his family. He should be responsible and provide for his family,” said the PPC of Choiseul Province.
“Domestic violence is a crime therefore I urge members of the public to support the police in dealing with it and discourage social issues that triggered such incident from happening,” Pogesopa said
