Raised and grew up in Heraniesi, South Malaita and Bellona, Rennell Provinces, Lavinia Tetahe Tata amongst her other achievements she has become the first female sea Captain for her people and she’s also a local shipowner.

She has overcome all the challenges with great perseverance and determination.

Her great achievement makes her the first sea-captain for her people of Heraniesi, South Malaita and Rennell and Bellona.

Lavinia is not only an accomplished Captain but also a true entrepreneur. She has invested in her own ships and has started her own shipping company. Her aim is to provide quality shipping services in Solomon Islands while promoting gender equality in the maritime industry and also very supportive of seafarers.

“We are extremely proud of Lavinia’s achievements and wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” her family said in a statement yesterday.

 Her success will inspire generations of young girls and women to follow their dreams and break down barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields.
Lavinia graduated from the School of Marine at the Solomon Islands National University and she currently works for her own company Sea-light Shipping Company that owns the Liberty III and MV Freedom.
