Government is working on a rural development policy and its accompanying legislative framework that will see the participation of our rural people in economic activities especially in the productive and resource sectors.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare revealed this when he gave his guest of honor speech on the occasion of celebrating the Choiseul Province’s Second Appointed Day.

PM Sogavare acknowledged that Lauru people are naturally hardworking and are willing to take on challenges if given the opportunity in economic activities.

“This is a challenge that we as leaders must be willing to take on as a deliberate policy decision,” the Prime Minister has pointed out.

“On that note the National Government is working on a comprehensive rural development policy with its legislative framework that will facilitate the active involvement of our people in the rural area in worthwhile economic activities in the productive and resource sectors,” PM Sogavare added.

He further revealed that so far development partners have been overwhelmed with interest to be part of the program as soon as the framework is in place.

Prime Minister added that “it is hoped that the supporting legislative and administrative framework will go before parliament in mid-2024.
