Government always prioritize the best interest of its people when it comes to making decision on matters of national security.

The National Government made the statement in response to an interview by the Opposition Leader honorable Matthew Wale with an Australian Television Network.

“It has never been the interest of one person as Wale has insinuated,” the government stated.

Government highlighted that the security agreement with Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC), like the one with Australia, is fundamentally to protect peace loving Solomon Islanders and their properties against domestic social uprisings.

The National Government further stated that the April riot of 2006 and much recently the November riot last year, were politically motivated by a minority group with the objective of unlawfully coercing the removal of a constitutionally elected Prime Minister.

“It is the duty of the government not to allow such evil schemes to reoccur. Hon Wale should know better, unless his ego and arrogance has taken the better of him.  With that being said, investigation is continuing to determine the architects responsible for the November riot of 2021,” the government added.

Government further stated that in the question of whose interest he is serving, it is unbecoming of a leader that Wale is asking a bilateral partner to be smarter in its aid support to the country.

“As the saying goes the devil is in the detail, Wale’s motive is clear in that he wants to stir up a traditional partner to create conditions for its aid support to the country however, the irony of it all is that this plan will play out at the expense of the people,” the National Government explained.

“If Australia as a bilateral partner were to submit to Wale’s demand, critical sectors would be adversely affected causing unnecessary suffering to the Solomon Islands public. People whom we swear to serve will be at the receiving end of Wale’s sinister plan which is to influence public opinion by attempting to garner the support of domestic and international agencies against the best interests of Solomon Islanders. Is that the kind of leader that this country needs?”, the government further stated.

The National Government pointed out that amongst other things, providing a safe and secure environment is a commitment that any government for that matter vows to honor, the Democratic Coalition Government (DCGA) for Advancement is no different.

Government added that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that the freedoms enjoyed by its citizens are practiced freely in a conducive and right environment.

“It would not make sense if one has the right to walk freely when his surrounding is hostile, again government’s responsibility is to facilitate the safety and security of that citizen so that his right to walk freely is not being trampled on,” the government statement explained.

Government’s effort to step up national security is clearly demonstrated in the capacity development of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), the on- going strengthening of the border policing, and the multilateral approach to security options.

Economically, government is also mindful of the negative impact of the social upheavals on our country’s reputation as an investing destination.

“The more security options we have, the better for the country’s image in terms of providing a secure environment for foreign investors and locals as well,” the government stated.

Government has reiterated time and time again, that it will not be careless nor reckless to put the national security of the country and that of the Pacific region in jeopardy neither will the DCGA allow any foreign power to undermine our national best interests and sovereignty.

This government is a responsible one, and it does not take lightly its mandate to serve and put the interest of the people at the forefront of every decision it makes.
