Govt commits to rid corruption – PM

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says that his government is committed to rid the country of corruption.

PM Sogavare boldly uttered the statement during 2019 International anti-corruption day marked in Honiara, Monday 9 December.

“My government is committed to rid our country of corruption,” he said.

Government have made tremendous progress in implementing the Anticorruption Act (2018).

Key milestones include:

  • Commencement of the Act a year ago today, at the 2018 International Anti-corruption Day
  • The Establishment of the Nominating Committee, to nominate members of the SIICAC in late April 2019,
  • The establishment of the Anti-corruption Working group to help develop the Terms of Reference for the SIICAC Secretariat, assist with the securing of the SIICAC operational needs when it is established,

The engagement of a local consultant to help review the 2017-2019 National Anti-Corruption Strategy and assist the national Anti-Corruption Steering Committee formulate the new National Anti-Corruption Strategy that is aligned to the Act-corruption Act 2018.
