A drunken man breached security protocols by entering and running onto the tarmac, a restricted area, on Thursday afternoon before an international flight took off.
Police confirmed to SBMOnline that the man was too drunk and was smoking marijuana before entering the restricted area.
Video shared on social media showed the man crossed the arrival and departure stretch of the tarmac before being chased off the runway and knocked down by a security guard.
The security personnel were believed to be from the national carrier and aviation.
The illegal entry into the runway had raised serious security concerns.
One concerned citizen told SBMOnline that how the person got in and crossed the tarmac should raise serious concerns about safety of aircrafts and passengers.
When contacted, aviation and airport authorities made no comments instead stating that we should talk to the policy as that they had already referred the matter to police.
In response to our query, police said today: “Police officers at the Honiara International Airport have strongly warned the person and released him. The person was too drunk and allegedly smoking marijuana when he was entering the restricted area and securities chased him. He has no option so he just decides to run across the airport runway.”
