A driver died after losing control of his vehicle down a slope on a slop at the Tahitarau logging road, Central Makira, which also seriously injured five others on Saturday last week.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai states that the deceased and nine male adults boarded a vehicle heading to the Tahitarau logging area to load sawn timbers and on their way back, the driver, lost control of the vehicle as it went down a sloppy road forcing it to overturn.
He confirmed that the driver was badly injured and died at the scene, five other passengers sustained major injuries and are admitted at Kirakira hospital, while another four passengers managed to escape unhurt.
Upon receiving the report, police managed to attend to the scene and conducted initial investigation.

Sitai calls on relatives to remain calm as police continue on with investigation into the cause of the incident.
He further appeals to anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist with police investigation.
“All vehicle owners and drivers who are providing services to the public must ensure your vehicles are road worthy and comply to traffic laws to avoid such incidents from happening,” Sitai said.
