Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operation Ms Juanita Matanga is visiting Malaita Province after the State of Public Emergency (SoPE) was lifted recently.

The visiting team made a courtesy call on the Honourable Premier of Malaita Province office to discuss some key areas to work on, especially on policing matters with the province.

The visit will be for a week where the team will also go to some of the outposts and police stations in parts of the province. The team will also have time to visit the Maliata Christian Care Centre (MCCC) office in Auki.

Mantanga says the purpose of the visit is for her to visit officers on the ground after SoPE was lifted recently.

She said this is because a lot of challenges were faced by officers at the frontline during the COVID-19.

“I take this chance to come and say thank you to the officers especially for their hard work in supporting the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) as they were the frontline officers who confronted and fought the COVID-19,” she said.

“Since Malaita Province is one of the biggest provinces in the Solomon Islands with a big population, it is important for me and the team to come and visit officers on the ground to give moral support despite the many challenges they are facing in daily policing,” said Matanga.

“As someone from the RSIPF Executive level who has the responsibility over the provinces I am happy to come and visit to have an audience and discuss matters relating to police,”  DC Matanga said.

Auki police conducted a parade and Matanga was given the honour to inspect the parade.

After the parade a muster was conducted to officers with an open discussion with the frontline officers.
