SEABEES from US Navy & US volunteer engineers repair Children’s Park

Members of various media organisations in Honiara today morning visited the Children’s Park Playground currently repaired by the SEABEES from the US Navy, volunteer engineers from the USNS Mercy (T-AH 19),as part of the Pacific Partnership 2022 Media Day.

Speaking to the media this morning, Lieutenant Pitchford said that they have plans to rebuild and repaint the park’s fence, refurbish the playground equipment and also provide and rebuild playground equipments.

“We also have other projects in the Island including working at the National Referral Hospital to repair and rebuild the floors as well as do some painting over there and installing some solar lights around the Island”, said LT Pitchford.

The project is part of the Pacific Partnership 2022, the largest annual multinational humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Pacific which is now im it’s 17th year.

“SEABEES love to work and they love to build new things in the community here. We also have some volunteers here, locals that are also helping out and really bringing that awesome energy and sense of community that we love to see”, LT Pitchford said.

The SEABEES and local volunteers will be working on the site until the 8th of September followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony on the 9th of September to reopen the park.
