PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare says the progress on the Bina Harbour Onshore Processing Plant project and the National Tilapia Aquaculture centre at Aruligo are succeeding positively.
The Prime Minister said the Government through the ministry has recently signed the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) on the Bina Project with the Malaita Provincial Government.
He said the signing is a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to this Project.
“As your Prime Minister, I sincerely appreciate the commitment made by the Malaita Provincial Government,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare also assured that his Government with other stakeholders including the support of donor partners will continue to progress the implementation of this project.
“I have been advised that the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources continues to work closely with the International Financial Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, regarding financial options for Bina Port Design and fisheries investment. This is welcoming indeed,” he said.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister said the National Tilapia Aquaculture Centre, a two-story building that will house an office and wet & dry laboratories and an outdoor hatchery building, have been built on site on time and within the budget.
Prime Minister Sogavare said these are important achievements from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, especially when our national development activities have slowed down.
“The Government through the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources is confident that work on the centre will be completed towards the end of this year,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the progress of these important projects would not have been possible without the continuous support of our donor partners, particularly New Zealand, International Financial Corporation and Australia.
