Two-time winner of the Prime Minister’s Excellence Award, Mr Bob Pollard, Managing Director of Kokonut Pacific Solomon Islands (KPSI), made this statement as the business community looks forward to the 2019 edition of the Business Excellence Awards (BEA).
The 2019 BEA is all set for this Saturday 30th November 2019 at the Coral Sea Resort and Casino from 6pm and for the first time ever the event will be live televised by Telekom Television (TTV).

“It is important to encourage local businesses as well. There are a lot of businesses doing exciting things in a very difficult business environment. The BEA’s are an opportunity to reaffirm the positive achievements that have been made,” Mr Pollard said.
KPSI was recipient of the Prime Minister’s Excellence Award in two consecutive years – the 2016 and 2017 BEAs.

The Prime Minister’s Best Excellence Award is the grand prize and ultimate award at the BEA and it is the only category not open for nomination and will be the judges’ selection of the standout organisation or individual across all the nominations received.

“It was an honour to be awarded and it was an encouragement for our young team and an endorsement of what we are trying to achieve,’ Mr Pollard said.

“It was humbling because we know that there are many businesses that could easily have been afforded the honour too and also deserving of the commendation,” he added.
Apart from the Prime Minister’s Excellence Awards, KPSI also won the Business Contribution to the Community Award in 2017.

Speaking after receiving this award at the 2017 BEA, Mr Pollard said: “We receive this award on behalf of all the hard-working families that are living in different parts of some of the far corners of the country who don’t enjoy some of the privileges of Honiara life.”

KPSI aims to improve village livelihoods through the production of virgin coconut oil and other coconut products.

Another two-time award recipient at the BEA is Tower Insurance Limited.
Tower Insurance Limited won the Award of Excellence in Service Delivery for the small business category in 2016 and the Small Business of the Year Award in 2017.

Current Country Manager to the Solomon Islands, Diana Tasion says the BEA is significant because hosting such an event encourages the business community to push to continue improving their business and service to the community as through this avenue, they get recognition for doing so.

“This also pushes businesses to lift their business standards that contributes to the development of the nation as a whole which then encourages and gives confidence to foreign investors,” she said.

Tower Insurance has been in the Solomon Islands for more than 30 years.
“It does not matter how big or small your operation or business is, as long as you are providing the best services to your customers and the community, that should be the main point.”

The 2019 edition will be the first BEA experience for Tower Insurance Country Manager, Ms Tasion, and she is excited and looking forward to attending.

“Tower Insurance has entered/nominated for a few Awards this year so we are very excited if we get recognised as we continue our mission to keep improving and keep doing business in the Solomons for many more years,” she said.

This year businesses will be honoured at the award ceremony in eleven (11) categories including: Entrepreneur of the Year, YECSI Entrepreneur of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Medium Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, Business Contribution to Sustainable Development & Community Award, Innovation & Technology Award, Agribusiness of the Year, Tourism Business of the Year and the Prime Minister’s Business Excellence Award.
