AUSTRALIA’S DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER VISITS SOLOMON ISLANDS

Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Richard Marles MP, has arrived in Honiara to meet with Solomon Islands newly formed Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT).

Mr Marles will meet with Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele and other senior ministers of the GNUT cabinet while he is in Honiara.

Mr Marles said the relationship between Australia and Solomon Islands has never been more important.

“The Australian government will continue its close and productive work with Prime Minister Manele and the government of Solomon Islands with our shared objective of a peaceful and prosperous region,” Mr Marles said.

This is Mr Marles’ eleventh visit to Solomon Islands, reflecting the deep and long-standing nature of the relationship between the governments and people of Solomon Islands and Australia.

Mr Marles’ packed agenda will include meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Bradley Tovosia, Minister for Finance and Treasury, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, and Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services Hon. Jimson Tanangada.

During the visit, Mr Marles will announce support projects under the enduring Solomon Islands – Australia partnership.
