Atu is new premier of GP, calls on leaders to embrace Guadalcanal

Guadalcanal Province now has a new premier. He is Willie Atu, the MPA for Moli Ward of East Guadalcanal.

He was elected today after defeating his rival Jim Tavalia of Paripao Ward.

Speaking after his win, Atu highlighted the importance of love for their province.

“I would like to embrace the sentiment (slogan) that was expressed in the report of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the last house, that is “Let us love Guadalcanal.”

He said love is not something that should not be forced, it is not to be prompted by money.

“Love is a gift from God and it should come within us. Our people, our constituents in our various wards in Guadalcanal have mandated us to come to this honorable house because they have seen something in us that will make a difference to the future and well-being of this province.
“We are all here to make a difference! What difference are you going to make in your respective wards and Guadalcanal Province in the next four years.”
