New Premier of Malaita, Elijah Asilaua, in his first message to his people calls for working together—pleading for the end of poor working attitude, instead they should like a water lily that grows in a muddy pool that brightly shines out.

Asilaua who now holds premiership in the country’s most populous province, already highlighted some of his priority areas that he wanted to implement across the island.

He spoke about bridging the island through roads and reigniting some of the major projects that have stalled over the years and unlocking Malaita’s potential in tourism.

Asilaua also prioritizes the cleanliness of Auki as one of his immediate goals which he believes would attract investors to his province.

However, he admits that these projects cannot be easily achieved overnight as it involves better planning, designing and costing that requires specific investigative studies.

“Let’s get rid of our poor working attitudes, camouflaged with procrastination and ignorance towards our vision. And be like a water lily that grows in the muddy poor, brightly shines out with its beautiful and friendly inviting and welcoming flowering petals to everyone,” he said.

Asilaua won the premier contest by 21 to 12 votes yesterday and now leads the Malaita Alliance for Transformation Unity and Empowerment.
