Solomon Ports today handed over SBD$5,000 to SI Chess Federation in aid of their fundraising drive this year.
This donation will go towards the federation’s fundraising drive to send a men’s and women’s team plus officials (15 people) next year to participate in the 44th Chess Olympiad in Russia.
The cheque was handed over by Solomon Port’s Human Resources Manager James Gerea to the federation’s general secretary, Don Fakarii.
In receiving the donation, Mr.Fakarii thanked ports for responding to their appeal and supporting their objective.
He said the main aim of the federation is to promote the game of chess in the country.
“We are introducing Chess to schools, also inside organizations, this year was a very active year for us, we did many tournaments and other activities,” he said.
“We acknowledge the support that Solomon Ports has given, and we will also be seeking financial assistance from other companies to help us reach our objective.”
Meanwhile, Solomon Ports HR Manager James Gerea said the SOE is happy to support the promotion of Chess in the country.
“We are really grateful in supporting this federation and whatever work they are doing,” he said.
“We know Chess is not a household name in the country, but we support this support will go for a worthwhile cause and to promote this sport.”
