Seaweed farmers from South Choiseul who were recently affected by tsunami-like conditions have expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government for responding positively to their appeal with a $50,000 financial assistance.

Minister of Education and Human Resources Development and MP for South Choiseul, Tozen Leokana, conveyed the farmers’ appreciation on their behalf.

“On behalf of the affected seaweed farmers of Wagina and Selekana, and the wider South Choiseul constituency, I extend our deepest gratitude to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Solomon Islands for its prompt and generous support following the devastation caused by the recent natural disaster,” Mr. Leokana said.

He noted that the SBD $50,000 provided by the Chinese Embassy would deliver immediate relief to farmers whose livelihoods were severely impacted.

“This timely support will go a long way in helping hardworking families recover and rebuild their vital source of income. Such generosity reflects the deepening ties between our two nations and demonstrates the Embassy’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in times of hardship. It is a clear example of practical cooperation and friendship in action,” he added.

The South Choiseul Constituency has welcomed the assistance and looks forward to further collaboration with China in areas of mutual interest and community development.
