Frustrated teachers are demanding that the government pays up their allowances nearly six months after many failed promises.
These teachers were the ones who marked the school exams last year and they are running out of patience after another promised date which was last pay day came without their allowances.
One described it as six months’ of lies.
The teachers were promised to that their allowances were supposed to be paid in February then on to March and now it’s nearly June and the allowances were yet to be paid.
“We need our allowances; this is too much. Previously it was delayed but it was always paid by March, this year it’s too much,” one frustrated teacher told SBMOnline.
The teacher they had been lied to many times and they can’t take it any longer.
The allowances were between 4,000 to 5,000 dollars for markers, with chief markers expecting $5k, whilst ordinary markers a thousand less.
When contacted, Permanent Secretary of Education and Human Resources Dr Franco Roddie confirmed that payment was already raised and is with the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
