An innocent man, 37, who stopped by the road on his way to his house was attacked by a drunkard and later died in the Kukum Heights area last week, Police Chief Mostyn Mangau, confirmed today.
A 17-year-old suspect is behind bars and was the alleged killer.
Mangau said the deceased got off a taxi on the road next to his house. He then walked to a group of boys sitting in front of a canteen to ask for a cigarette. It was after he left them that a 17-year-old, who was under the influence of liquor, allegedly walked behind him and attacked him from the back.  The deceased then fell on the ground, unconscious. The deceased’s brother was amongst those who was the first on the scene. He and others tried to save him and then rushed his brother to the hospital but he was pronounced death there.
Following the incident, Mangau appeals to young people to show respect to others and not to harm other people.
He urges residents to abide by the law and must show respect all the time.
