13 petitions in High Court, one day before deadline

By this afternoon, 13 petitions have reached the high court and the number is expected to rise at the close of the ‘petition period’ by 3pm tomorrow.

Deputy Registrar of the High Court Jack Taloifuila confirmed the number of petitions already filed adding his officials were working on new ones being submitted in the afternoon.

He also stated that the final number of petitions would be known five days after they are filed as petitioners are given five days under the act to meet the bond fee of $40,000. The high court filing fee is $2,000.

  5. MP for Lau Baelelea Ben Maenu’u (petitioner Augustine Auga)

  6. MP for West Guadalcanal Moses Garu (petitioner Anthony Veke)

  7. MP for East Guadalcanal Bradley Tovosia (petitioner Jessey Koli)

  8. MP for West Honiara Namson Tran (petitioner Wilson Mamae)

  9. MP for Temotu Pele James Bonuga (petitioner Dudley Kopu)

  10. MP for North West Choiseul Harry Kuma (petitioner Alick F)

  11. MP for Central Guadalcanal Peter Shanel Agovaka (petitioner Manegelea R.J)

  12. MP for Vatud Freda Tuki

  13. MP for Baegu/Asifoloa Makario Tagini (petitioner Celsus Talifilu).

According to the Deputy Registrar Taloifuila, the court would prioritise the petitions and they must be heard within a 12 months period.

In 2019, 29 petitions were filed – two were successful.
