Malaita Province, Solomon Islands – 3rd June 2025 – The Solomon NIHON (JICA) Alumni Association has successfully concluded a three-day Waste Management Awareness Campaign in three locations around Auki communities, Malaita Province, Promoting environmental responsibility and community participation.
The campaign commenced on Friday, 30th May, with an awareness program at Aligegeo Provincial Secondary School (PSS). The session was led by Ms. Christina Ariki, a dedicated member of the Alumni Association, who delivered an engaging and informative presentation on sustainable waste management practices. The awareness drive was marked by heartfelt participation from teachers, students, and Alumni members, highlighting a shared commitment to a cleaner environment. As part of the program, the Association donated two willy bins and stationaries to the school to support improved waste disposal on campus.
On Saturday, 31st May, the JICA alumni members community partnership engagement on conducting general clean-up at Kilu’ufii hospital vicinity together with the Kilusakwalo and Auki youth. The event was not only addressed waste issues but also fostered unity and volunteerism. The Association presented one willy bin to the hospital to aid ongoing waste management efforts. The clean-up concluded with a light refreshment session, speeches, and networking discussions, creating a meaningful platform for continued collaboration.
The final leg of the campaign took place on Monday, 2nd June, at Auki Community High School, where another waste management awareness session was delivered to staff and students. The team reinforced key messages on environmental care and waste segregation. To support the school’s waste disposal efforts, the Association donated two willy bins.
Throughout the campaign, the Solomon NIHON (JICA) Alumni Association demonstrated its strong commitment to community development and environmental sustainability. The Association extends its heartfelt thanks to all participating schools, youth groups, hospital staff, and volunteers for their enthusiasm and support.
The Solomon NIHON (JICA) Alumni executive was pleased with the outcomes of this partnership on waste management and engagement to the provinces. The President Robert Dukavalaka acknowledged his executive members and alumni for taking their initiative to go out in number despite their busy schedules. The president assured the members that there are exciting upcoming events planned for this financial year.
