Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele has warmly welcomed the Ambassador of Georgia to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Beka Dvali, during a courtesy meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet this afternoon.
Prime Minister Manele congratulated Ambassador Dvali on his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Solomon Islands, with residence in Canberra.
Acknowledging the warm welcome, Ambassador Dvali said, Georgia is a developing nation with the potential to further extend a hand of partnership to its foreign partners including Solomon Islands.
Forging foreign partnership is a priority for Georgia, he stated.
Ambassador Dvali adds, Georgia is friendly, respect sovereignty and is a reliable partner.
Discussions between the Prime Minister and His Excellency highlighted key areas of mutual interest, including education, human resources development, and multilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Manele acknowledged past support from Georgia, such as the provision of computers to local schools and scholarships for Solomon Islanders to pursue higher education in Georgia. He conveyed appreciation for Georgia’s assistance to Solomon Islands medical students in Cuba, noting the lasting impact of these contributions.
The Prime Minister also proposed the revival of the 2012 agreement on educational support, and suggested the possibility of offering in-country scholarships at the Solomon Islands National University, to enhance accessibility for local students.
Discussions also revisited the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the two countries which was paused during the COVID 19 pandemic. Prime Minister Manele reaffirmed his government’s interest in finalizing the MOU to broaden the scope of collaboration.
On the multilateral front, Prime Minister Manele expressed gratitude for Georgia’s past support and assured that the Solomon Islands will continue its principled stance on international matters concerning Georgia’s territorial integrity.
Prime Minister Manele conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Dvali, expressing Solomon Islands’ desire for deeper cooperation and enduring friendship.
