The Solomon Islands Chinese Women Association on Friday (28 June) donated several items ranging from baskets, pencils, shoes, sleeping bags to papers totaling to more than $80,000 to the Special Development Centre at Riffle Range in Honiara.

Representatives of the SICWA were on site to deliver the goods to the school which they received with utmost appreciation.

School Principal Jiope Iputu said: “We are very happy to get the assistance. It will greatly enhance the students learning and wellbeing.”

He commended the SICWA and the Chinese community in Honiara for the support.

Iputu admitted that running such a school is not easy and such support would go a long way to helping the centre.

The centre currently enrolls more than 90 students.

Iputu hoped that the donation would significantly help the students in their learning environment.

A spokesperson for the SICWA stated that the donations come from members of their association and Chinese companies in the country.

She detailed that the donation, includes: pencil, rulers, clothes, papers, sleeping bags and spoons.

“As a women’s group that cares for our children, we see it fit to support the centre. After we agreed to, we rallied for support and today we are here to deliver the goods,” the spokesperson, stated.

Also accompanying the members of the SIWCA was the Chinese Medical Team. The team used the opportunity to carry out health checks on the students, staff and the community around the school.

Iputu said it was a great opportunity that the Chinese team was also present to do health checks on the students and his staff so as the surrounding community.
