On the same day it celebrates its second anniversary, M-SELEN — the Solomon Islands’ leading mobile money platform under Our Telekom — has unveiled a game-changing service: the country’s first Merchant Payment Service designed for both smartphones and basic phones.

Branded as “Pay With M-SELEN,” the service allows customers to make quick, secure, and cashless paymentsat local shops and market stalls using QR codes or numeric codes — no physical cash, no need for change, no limitations on device type.

“This is a bold step toward a truly cashless Solomon Islands,” said Christina Lasaqa, CEO of Our Telekom. “With ‘Pay With M-SELEN,’ we’re not just adding a feature — we’re enabling a digital future where financial access is inclusive, secure, and built for our customers.”

But it’s not just customers who benefit. Participating merchants can now digitally manage their business earnings. They can:

• Pay suppliers directly from their M-SELEN wallets

• Transfer funds to their bank accounts

• Send money to friends and family

• Purchase utilities like cash power and water for their shops

• Or even sell Telekom Top-Up — all from one platform

This digital loop reduces the risks of cash handling, boosts financial transparency, and simplifies daily operations — helping businesses become more efficient and resilient.

“Whether you’re in Honiara or in a remote village, M-SELEN now lets you pay, trade, and thrive — straight from your phone,” said Majidul Haque, Head of M-SELEN. “And for shop owners, this means smarter cashflow management, less cash in drawers, and more control over their finances.”

In just two years, M-SELEN has onboarded nearly 3,000 agents, registered over 300,000 users — representing more than 40% of the national population — and processed millions of dollars in transactions, cementing its role as a cornerstone of the Solomon Islands’ digital economy.

To use the service, customers can dial *123# or open the M-SELEN App and select Buy Goods & Services when paying at participating merchants.
