Police probe into death of fisherman after he was found floating

Police are investigating the death of a fisherman who was found floating in north east Malaita on 17^th of February.

In a statement today, police say they are investigating the cause of death of the person who was found floating along the coast of his home village of Nuideli on 17^th February 2025.

Police say the 25-year-old deceased went fishing in his dugout canoe around 4pm on 17 February 2025.

“Before his body was discovered around 7pm that same day, his canoe was first seen floating. His relatives noticed there was no one in the canoe so they conducted a search and the body was eventually found,” police state.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, said police are working closely with the relatives of the deceased to ascertain the cause of his death.

Ramosaea appeals to members of Niudeli village and those nearby to assist them in their investigation by providing relevant information that will be useful to the investigation.
