Police today dissociated itself from claims in a social media post alleging that they (RSIPF) are also part of the alleged abductions reported in the city over the past week.
Deputy Police Commissioner Ian Vaevaso told journalists today that: “I want to make it clear that police do not involve in such evil – as claimed by some social media platforms. We tolerate that. Our job is to protect our people, our citizens.”
He assured the public they are not going to take the matter lightly especially in regards to what is happening in the city.
Vaevaso today confirmed that they had arrested one suspect on Friday afternoon and the vehicle he was driving.
Both the suspect and the vehicle are detained by police.
Honiara was this week rocked by reports of abductions mostly to school children. That has caused fear and also angered many residents who wanted police to take tough action against those behind the illegal activities.
Vaevaso assured Honiara residents that they are on top of the issue and doing their best to provide security to the people in the city.
