Police has outlined its preparedness to provide security for next week’s motion of no confidence vote on Tuesday—dispatching 500 officers as part of its operations.
Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau told journalists on Friday that they will be out in force to provide security and appeals for the public to go about their normal business.
In assuring the public of their safety, he also calls on communities to support their efforts and allow “our political leaders” to deal with the issue in a democratic process.
He indicates that the security threat is low but warns that they would deal with anyone who breaks the law.
The Parliament will debate the MONC in Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele on Tuesday. It will be moved by the MP for Central Honiara and a former Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.
Lilo served the motion to the Clerk of Parliament on Monday, the same day eleven MPs from the government side defected from the GNUT coalition. Amongst those that abandoned PM Manele and his government was his former minister of finance and prime minister Manasseh Sogavare.
