The Honiara City Council has moved ahead with its plan to remove derelict vehicles from city side roads and public spaces by issuing a notice to inspect Skyline, Koa Hill and Mbokonavera areas as its first places to implement the policy.

In a public notice today, HCC Clerk Justice Denni said authorized Council officers will begin inspections and issuing notices starting on Monday, 3rd March.

“When approached or requested by authorities, vehicle owners and/ or mechanics are required to provide their full name, address and contact details,” he said.

Denni further states that following the expiration of the voluntary removal notice for derelict vehicles, the Council will now proceed with formal notice issuance to those responsible.

“This will initiate the necessary legal procedures for prosecuting identified offenders in accordance with the relevant ordinances,” he said.

Denni warns that the Council would priorities the immediate prosecution of individuals responsible for or liable for derelict vehicles and will proceed with the removal of all such vehicles from the main roads.
