Thirteen illegal betel-nut street sellers were arrested in Honiara today during a joint operation by the Honiara City Council Legal Office, Law Enforcement and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
The move is an effort to clampdown on unauthorised activity in the Honiara City.
City Clerk Rence Sore says,”13 betel nut sellers from the market and street (from HCC Headquarters to ITA Hardware) were arrested.
The total include 4 male and 9 female.
“The illegal vendors are in police custody and charges will be laid against them,” he adds.
He says this is part of the HCC’s clean-up campaign started today and will continue for an unspecified period of time.
The action by HCC and Police acquires public support with people took to the social media to commend the Council’s new administration for taking such bold stance against people who continue to breach the Council’s ordinances.
