The Government is seriously committed to decentralise all developments to the provinces around the country.
Prime Minister Sogavare stated this when he met with the new United States Ambassador to Solomon Islands H.E Erin Mckee at the Office of the Prime Minister recently.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s role in addressing the recommendations stipulated in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report.
According to the Prime Minister, the decentralisation of services to the Provinces will help to lessen the rate of urban drift to Honiara that the country has been experiencing.
Prime Minister Sogavare also stated that the U.S has an important role in keeping the peace around the world.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Mckee told the Prime Minister that the United States cares about the Solomon Islands and is here to stay and provide support to the Government in its developmental aspirations.
H.E Mckee expressed Solomon Islands as an important partner to the United States and reiterated that the U.S stands ready to assist the Solomon Islands in its development challenges.
The Ambassador further stated that the U.S will be working closely with the government to demonstrate and share some of the responsibilities in ensuring the Solomon Islands unlock some of its potentials that will benefit the people and more especially the future generations of this country.
The Ambassador further impressed that the U.S will look to the Prime Minister and his government to inform them on the ways the U.S can better focus on and to present and deliver in the best possible means the development plans for the betterment of the country.
Prime Minister Sogavare also expressed his gratitude for the visit and acknowledged U.S as a long-time friend of the Solomon Islands whose partnership goes a long way back.
