Two chiefs have been arrested for demanding $10,000 compensation from a family of a man in Ngella whom they claimed had made a female pregnant. It was later confirmed by health authorities that the girl was never pregnant.
Commissioner of Police Mosty Mangau told the media today that Tulagi Police had arrested two chiefs from Salesapa Village on 17th November for demanding $10,000 compensation.
Mangau further explained that the chiefs were drunk and demanded money alleging that the victim had impregnated the girl so he must pay $10,000 in compensation.
However, Mangau said the girl was taken for pregnant test and her result was negative.
“There is no evidence of pregnancy as proved by medical authority and the two suspects were arrested,” the commissioner, stated.
“I want to appeal to leaders, chiefs and church leaders that such matters have ways to deal with. We chiefs are the ones who suppose to solve such matters according to our tradition practices rather than we take it into our own hands and demand money from our people,” he said.
