The Church Agencies Network Disaster Operations(CANDO) which comprised of the Faith Based organizations in  the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji Islands, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and the Australia  faith- based agencies gathered together in Sydney for a week long financial Year 24/25  program planning workshop in June 2024. The CANDO partners and members have sound faith-based humanitarian practice that is localized, relevant, effective and accountable. The CANDO Programs and initiatives are well coordinated to save lives and improve well-being and result in resilient communities.  The church Agencies Network Disaster Operation (CANDO) members and partners work collaboratively with sound and evolving partnership practices that foster local leadership, new partnership, and effective advocacy and influence.

The CANDO in the Solomon Islands comprised of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM), South Seas Evangelical Church (SSEC), ADRA for the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), Catholic Church, United Church in Solomon Islands and Solomon Islands Christian Association (SICA). The program Coordinator of CANDO in the Solomon Islands Mr. Lionel Dau   who attended the workshop in Sydney stated that, the workshop brought together different faith –based organization partners with a shared learning, best practices, and various experiences from different country and context.

This has reflected to one of the CANDO principles in which “we commit to continual learning to strengthen CANDO’s effectiveness through learning and Improvement.”

 The ultimate goal of CANDO is to increase the consortium’s locally-led  reach and impact in disaster resilience, disaster preparedness and emergency response through building and coordinating, collaborative partnerships and respecting and supporting the role of faith –based humanitarian actors.

The church faith based network partners accessed funding from the Australian Government through the program called the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) and disaster READY activities.
