RSIPF investigates alleged bush knife attack in WP

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Gizo in Western Province are investigating an alleged grievous harm incident that occurred at Kekoso Village, Vonunu on Vella la Vella Island in Western Province on 10 September 2020.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “An initial report received say that the victim was having a conversation at about 11 pm on 10 September with two boys when the suspect appeared from nowhere in the dark and flashed a torchlight towards the victim’s eyes. At the same time, it is alleged, the suspect struck the victim with a long bush knife aiming for his head.”

“The victim quickly defended himself with his hand blocking the knife from hitting his forehead. The bush knife landed onto the victim’s left hand resulting in a serious injury just below his elbow.”

PPC Mathias explains, “The victim was taken to Vonunu Rural Health Centre on the night of the incident and was referred to Gizo Hospital on 14 September 2020.The victim was X-rayed at the Gizo Hospital and confirmed that two bones on his hand were broken. The victim has been further referred to the National Referral Hospital in Honiara for medical attention.”

“The suspect has been arrested and charged for grievous harm contrary to section 226 of the Penal Code and will be remanded for 14 days at the Gizo Correctional Centre awaiting his court date.”

“I call on people in and around Kekoso Village on Vella la Vella to come forward to police with any information that may assist the investigation,” says PPC Lenialu.
