The Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) has suspended all visitations in all Correctional Centres throughout the country as of 23March 2020 as part of its COVID-19 Management Plan.
The global outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic triggers CSSI to proactively accelerate prepared measures to prevent transmission in the CSSI Centres.
CSSI Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi in accordance Correctional Service Act 2007 section 6 (2) (b) (3) (a) (b), make orders for the safety, security and good governance of the Correctional Service and Correctional Centres.
Manelusi assured inmates and visitors that your health and wellbeing are paramount importance and CSSI staffs are working hard to mitigate and minimise the risk of COVID-19 entering our Correctional Centres. Every day we review what we are doing in response to the latest Medical and Government advices.
We now entered a new phase of infection control and had to make a difficult decision about how to best protect inmates, visitors and our officers, says Manelusi.
He adds, all Correctional Centre Commandants are instructed to execute the following orders as of 23 March 2020.
- All family visit in the correctional centres are on temporary suspension
- All church worship programs inside and outside of Correctional Centres on temporary suspension
- Training Providers and other Rehabilitation Programs offered and delivered by other Non-Government Organisations and Private Sectors in the Correctional Centres on temporary suspension until further notice.
- Key stakeholders and Visitors of Correctional Centres are advised to adhere to instructions and will be notified as soon as it’s safe to do so.
The only inmates allowed exit and entry from the Correctional Centres are those for judicial, medical and for farming purposes, as well as emergency contractors and all subject to be reviewed.
Commissioner Manelusi urge all respective Commandants to adhere to CSSI COVID-19 Management Plan and it’s our duty to ensure that our inmates and staffs are safe and have the required informations to keep safe from this deadly virus.
