The Malaita Provincial Government has formally recognized the positive and sustained contributions made by World Vision International and World Vision Solomon Islands across rural communities in North Malaita.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony of the Jacob’s Ladder to Kwene Community in Malu’u, the Honorable Member of the Malaita Provincial Assembly for Ward 9, Hon. George Ganiau, conveyed the province’s gratitude for the development work currently taking shape through World Vision’s initiatives.

He acknowledged the long-standing partnership between the Malaita Provincial Government and World Vision, stating that their collaboration has helped address critical development gaps in communities where government support is often difficult to extend.

“We recognize World Vision’s unwavering commitment and the practical assistance they have continuously provided to some of our most underserved rural areas,” Ganiau said. “Their presence in North Malaita is not only timely but deeply impactful.”

He highlighted that North Malaita is the most densely populated region in Malaita Province and, as such, faces a broad range of developmental challenges, particularly in remote and isolated communities. “With a large population comes significant responsibility and greater needs. But with partners like World Vision working alongside us, we are able to bridge those gaps more effectively,” he added.

The MPA also commended the people of North Malaita, describing them as peaceful and community-oriented.

He remarked that World Vision’s continued presence in the region over the past decades is a testament to the positive relationship that exists between the organization and the local communities.

“World Vision has stayed with us for years, and that is no coincidence,” he added. “Their commitment speaks volumes about the peacefulness and hospitality of the North Malaitan people.”

Ganiau made special mention of the Kwene Impact Club for their voluntary efforts in realizing the Jacob’s Ladder project. He acknowledged the hard work, resilience, and cooperation of the community in bringing the development to completion despite facing various challenges along the way.

“The determination and ownership shown by the Kwene community should serve as a model for other communities across the province,” he said. “This is the kind of grassroots initiative that the Malaita Provincial Government encourages and fully supports.”

In his concluding remarks, the Honorable MPA urged the people of North Malaita to become active agents of change in their communities.

“We must not just sit back and anticipate development. We must become participators, engaging in action, taking responsibility, and working together with partners for the betterment of our region.”
