Honiara, Solomon Islands — The Policy Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit (PIMEU) in the Prime Minister’s Office farewelled the former Chief of Staff, Mack Faddean Aoraunisaka, and welcomed the new Chief of Staff, Douglas Ete, at a brief ceremony today.

Mr Aoraunisaka took up the role in 2023 following the passing of former Chief of Staff the late Robson Djokovic.

Aoraunisaka was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) policy during his tenure until his departure this month.

Aoraunisaka said it was an honor and privilege for him to serve two Prime Ministers and help to drive the policies of two Governments during his term.

“It has been an honour and a great privilege to serve as Chief of Staff within the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Over the past years, I have had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most dedicated, intelligent, and passionate public servants,” Aoraunisaka said.

He congratulated his successor, Douglas Ete, for taking up the role as the new Chief of Staff for the GNUT Government.

“I offer my full support to our new COS, Douglas Ete, as you continue the work with the same dedication and even greater ambition. I may be stepping aside, but I will always remain a supporter of this nation’s development,” he added.

Ete was a career Public Servant and a three-time member of Parliament before taking up his new role this month.

He brings with him a wealth of experience in politics and policy development, having served 10 years as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and in various leadership and ministerial roles, including as a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Public Service.

His extensive understanding of government operations and provincial dynamics is expected to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration and service delivery across the country.
