Honiara, Solomon Islands,(25 June 2025) The Solomon Islands Principal Conference 2025 officially opens in Honiara on 25th June 2025 bringing together more than 300 school leaders and education providers from all provinces across the country.
The 3 days conference held under the theme “Creating a Better Future for Our Children in Solomon Islands through Transformational Leadership” provides a platform for professional exchange, strategic reflection, and leadership renewal aimed at building stronger and more resilient schools across the country.
Minister of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) Hon. Tozen Leokana in his official remark said that the conference is a valuable opportunity designed to empower school leaders with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration they need to lead with vision and confidence.
Minister Leokana highlighted the important role of Principals in the Education system and their capacity as instructional leaders, are instrumental in supporting their dedicated teachers and champion effective teaching strategies, cultivate a culture of continuous professional development, and ultimately ensure that every student receives the highest quality of instruction, leading to tangible learning outcomes.
He reminded the school leaders their role in community engagement is equally critical through building strong, collaborative relationships with parents, families, and the wider community to create a powerful network of support that extends beyond the classroom walls, enriching the educational experience for all.
“Furthermore, your adeptness in resource management is vital and overseeing your school’s budget, facilities, and resources effectively ensures that your institutions operate smoothly and provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
“It’s undeniable that strong principal leadership has a profound and direct impact on student achievement and well-being. Your guidance, vision, and unwavering commitment directly translate into improved academic outcomes, enhanced social-emotional development, and a brighter future for every child under your care,” Minister Leokana said.
The 2025 Solomon Islands Principals’ Conference is supported by the Governments of Australia and New Zealand through the Education Sector Support Program (ESSP) and the Solomon Islands Government through MEHRD which aims to provide quality basic education for all children in Solomon Islands.
