Galokale speaks highly of PM Marape’s visit

The Leader of the Independent Group in parliament welcomes and speak highly of the recent state visit by the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Honorable James Marape.

Galokale said the visit by PM Marape has further enhanced the cordial friendship and relationship between the two Melanesian countries.

Galokale also added that Solomon Islands and PNG are not only Melanesian brothers but neighbors with common interests and shared ideologies. Against a backdrop of an emergent international order, closer cooperation is necessary to manage relations with increased opportunities and flexibilities.

“Our shared interests in trade, border security, affairs of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), and the promotion of the blue ocean are but some of the common interests that the two countries share, and it is important that these interests are being bolstered, highlighted and reaffirmed,” Galokale stated.

Galokale said he is greatly encouraged by the signing of the “Framework agreement for Economic and Development Cooperation and the “Treaty guiding relationship between Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea”.

The Leader of the Independent Group also acknowledged the educational grant offered by the PNG government.

“Solomon Islands as a country is indebted to PNG and its people for the on- going educational grant support.

“PM Marape has continued a traditional assistance and as the Leader of the Independent Group in parliament I too would like to sincerely thank PM Marape and his government and the people of PNG as a whole,” Honorable Robertson Galokale stated.

Galokale further acknowledged the assistance given to the private sector by PM Marape as well.

“The private sector has been the engine room of our economy and it is heartening and gratifying that PM Marape has offered a grant to the sector to be supervised by the Ministry of Commerce together with Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI),” Galokale stated.

Galokale also acknowledged the financial assistance for the Pacific Games 2023 offered by PM Marape.

“The Pacific Games will be a regional event and as the host it is incumbent of us to provide standard if not the best sporting facilities, PNG’s input will help to ease the huge burden of cost on Solomon Islands for facilitating the regional event,” the Leader of the Independent Group stated.

Honorable Robertson Galokale said both Solomon Islands and PNG must seek to improve governance in both countries and pursue continued engagement in collective action to bring positive change to both nations.

Galokale said the relationship between Solomon Islands and PNG is premised on trust, respect and confidence and that such will continue into the unforeseeable future.

Hon Galokale concluded in congratulating the Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare and the Solomon Islands Government for being wonderful hosts to our visiting brethren. -US style=’fo
