DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: The Governor-General, His Excellency Sir David Tiva Kapu is inspiring our nationals residing and working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to represent Solomon Islands as noble ambassadors in their host country.

Sir David met the small Solomon Islands community in Dubai on Thursday (27 February) on his way home from London after his knighthood by His Majesty King Charles III.

He congratulated them for taking up job opportunities in the UAE, which is far from home in addition to different cultural, religious, and political structures.

“I am glad to meet you here in your host country and I would like to encourage you to represent our country as good Ambassadors by respecting the laws and cultures of the UAE,” Sir David said.

“Your performance and behavior are important for bridging our two countries and for building the reputation of Solomon Islands for future job opportunities here,” he said.

“Make use of the opportunities that your host country offered to you for the benefit of your families and our country as a whole,” he added.

The Solomon Islands Community in the UAE was delighted to interact with His Excellency and his delegation, describing the gathering as a family reunion due to the distance away from home for many years.

Speaking on behalf of our nationals, Ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Cornelius Walegerea congratulated Sir David on his knighthood and thanked him for his encouragement to the families living and working in the Emirates.

“We are so thankful for availing your short time to meet us and to encourage us as our Head of State. This is a rare opportunity for many of our families to meet and mingle with His Majesty’s representative,” Ambassador Walegerea said.

He assured the Governor General that our nationals in the UAE are always mindful of the requirements under their work visas, highlighting that the opening of the Solomon Islands Mission in Abu Dhabi is an important milestone that provides home and consular services for them in the UAE.
