Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau has confirmed that they are investigating a video of a male person who claimed to be attacked by unidentified persons using a RAV4 in Central Honiara. Mangau confirmed that if the story was not true, they would arrest the person for spreading false information.
The story was widely shared on social media over the weekend, with the male in the video claiming that he was attacked by men in a white RAV4 using a hook.
Many social media users had questioned the accuracy of the video and expressed doubts on its content. Some also argued that the video had increased panic amongst the city residents given the current state of allegations of abduction in Honiara.
Mangau confirmed today to the press that his officers had already investigated the video.
“We are investigating that (video) if it is false then we have to charge the person,” said Mangau.
