Police and Honiara City Council law enforcers will start removing tints from public vehicles (buses and taxis), Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau and Lord Mayor Eddie Siapu announced today.

In a joint press conference this afternoon at the OPMC by government agencies, Mangau announced they will be removing all tints from public transport providers (buses and taxis) as provided for under the HCC Ordinance.

City Mayor Siapu said his executive had met last week and agreed to remove tints from public transport in light of the current situation in the city.

Honiara is gripped by fear and concerns of alleged abductions where some people are alleged to be using vehicles— targeting school children.

Mangau confirmed today that two incidents were reported to police from Betikama School and Kukum, both in eastern side of the city.

Meanwhile, Siapu confirmed that he had already met with the Attorney-General John Muria Jr.  this morning regarding the HCC Ordinance on tinted vehicles which he added had taken the issue very seriously.

Muria told the press today that there are penalties for those who fail to comply with the removal of their tints—one of them is the removal of their business licenses.

Mangau said the removal of the tints is to clear some of “our doubts and suspicions” surrounding the current situation.
