A man drunk with home-brew burns down his family home to the ground after arguing with his wife in a village in the Western Province recently.

The 26-year-old husband from Uzamba village in Vella La Vella Island, Western Province has already been arrested and charged with arson.

According to the Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Superintendent Wilken Miriki said the husband with his wife, who reside downstairs of the same dwelling house, had an argument over a container of locally made homebrew the suspect was looking for after he woke up.

The suspect was drunk (with home-brew) the whole night and continued the next day before he burnt down the dwelling house.

“After he drank all the left-over homebrew, he went down to his wife’s market, approached her aggressively about a missing container of homebrew and demanded cash to pay for more homebrew. When his wife did not want to give him the money, he collected dried sago palm leaves, went inside the house and lit the sago palm leaf, locked the door of the house and as it caught fire,” said Mariki

The suspect was arrested and placed in police custody, charged for the arson contrary to section 319 (a) of the Penal Code. He will appear before Gizo Magistrates’ Court on a later date.
