The Western Provincial Government Non Executive is raising concerns on the dog issue within the Gizo Township.

In a statement released, speaking on behalf of the Non Executive, Member for Bilua ward 8 Hon. Kadiba Alu said this issue needs more attention from the Provincial Premier, the Provincial Executive, and the Gizo Town Council.

Following a recent dog attack on an 8-year-old child recently, the Town Council and the Provincial Executive need to promptly address this public concern.

The Gizo Task Dog committee has been talking about the Dog Ordinance but has fallen short of making any positive progress. The Dog Committee is not walking the talk.

“There is an immediate concern as safety for the public, especially the children are at great risk with the increase of stray dogs. The Dog Committee with Political support from the Premier and Provincial Government should be addressing this issue.”

“The Premier together with the Town Council needs to quickly take necessary and immediate action on this to gain the confidence and trust of the public.” At the moment, they are losing the confidence of the people.

The recent attack happened in front of the Provincial office and this does not speak well of the Premier, his Executive, and the Gizo Town Council.

The recent dog bite is not an isolated incident. Recently, others were victims of stray dogs. Last year, a young lad died of a dog attack.

How long will this issue take before everyone can enjoy the freedom of movement without the fear of being randomly attacked by stray dogs.

Stray dogs do not select their prey. Next time it could be you. So do something before the dog attacks you and your household.
