76-y-o grandfather arrested for alleged rape of 3 girls

A 76-year-old grand-father has been arrested and detained in Gizo Correctional facility for the alleged rape of three girls, who are closely related to him, on different occasions in Choiseul.

The incidents happened on different occasions to the three girls in 2023 aged 8, 9 and 12.

Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau told the press today that the suspect, a grand-father, invited the victims to his house before allegedly committing the crime.

He added after committing the crime, the suspect threatened the girls not to inform their parents or relatives.

However, one of the girls shared her story with another who was also a victim – resulting in the story breaking out into the community.

“So, it was reported to police and the suspect was arrested,” Mangau said.

The grandfather now faces three counts of rape.

“This is very alarming incident as it is committed by a person of trust,” Mangau said.

“This is very concerning,” he added.

Mangau calls for communities to be vigilant to help prevent such things from happening in the communities.
