Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai says it is alleged that the male person in his 50s had sexual intercourse with a 27-year-old without her consent in the two separate occasions.

Sitai says the first incident happened on an unknown date in June 2019 and the second one occurred on 4 June 2021. The rape allegations occurred at Abuiahi settlement in West Makira. The matter was reported to police on the 4June 2021 and an investigation has been carried out. The 50-yr-old was charged with two counts of rape and will appear at Kirakira Magistrates’ Court on a later date. He’s still remanded at Kirakira Correctional Centre.

Sitai said: “I would like to thank police officers involved with the investigation and the arrest of the suspect. It has not been easy as the suspect had been on the run trying to avoid police after the matter was reported. I would like to thank the members of Crime Prevention Committee’s for your great support to easily arrest the suspect.

“I further appeal to the members of the public in and around West Makira who may have any information in relation to the matter to come forward and assist police investigation. You can call Kirakira police on phone 50299,” says Sitai.
