30-yr-old man arrested for alleged rape of disabled female

A-30-year-old male was arrested and detained by Auki Police, Malaita Province for the alleged rape of a disabled female person.

Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau described the incident as a very sad one as it had happened to a person with disability in West Baelelea.

Mangau explained to the press today that the suspect was alleged to have had sexual intercourse with the victim on several occasions.

He alleged that the sexual assaults occurred after the accused led the disabled person into the bush between July and November of this year.

Mangau said after the girl’s aunt noticed changes to her body, she took her to a clinic where she also had pregnancy test and confirmed she was pregnant.

She then reported the matter to police that led to the arrest of the suspect.

The victim is now in the care of Kilufi’i hospital near Auki.

Mangau calls on the public to show respect to people with disability and not to harm.
