The concept design was revealed a day before Independence at the opening of the Exit Gate of the Domestic Terminal.

The terminal will be built at the Ports Shed which currently houses Shipping Company Offices (like IDC) and others.  SIPA Chief Executive Officer, Eranda Kotelawala says the new development will improve the standard of Honiara Port, and will make Honiara Port a model port in the pacific region.

The new building which will cost around $30m to build and will be a facelift to the domestic terminal.

Kotelawala said it will have ticket offices and coffee shops so that waiting passengers can use the facilities whilst waiting to board their ships to their respective provinces.

This will be the first of its kind in the country and Solomon Ports is committed to improving its facilities at its ports.

The construction of the building is expected to start soon.
