A 12-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly raping a 4-year-ld girl in a village in west Guadalcanal.
Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau said the incident occurred on the 21st of March when the victim was left at home with the suspect.
Mangau said the victim’s mother was going to Honiara and left her daughter with the suspect’s parents at home. However, when the suspect’s parents went to the garden they left the girl with the 12-year-old who then allegedly raped her.
Mangau said nobody knew of the rape until the mother of the girl returned home who then realized that he daughter has had difficulty in walking and was urinating blood.
The girl was then taken to Tangarare Medical Centre where the nurses confirmed that “a penetration had occurred to the girl’s private part”.
Guadalcanal Police seven days ago arrested the boy who is now in custody.
The suspect’s side had paid compensation including cash, traditional food and shell money but police say the boy will still face the law.
